Assessment activity examples: (relating to Lesson Plans: 8 to 10)

Cambs Agreed Syllabus:

Pupils will show evidence that they:

are beginning to explore and understand the part played by symbolism in religion;

Example of activities:

Pupils are given stimulus material such as a range of symbols from a faith they have studied e.g. seder dish, Five K's of Sikhism, symbols of Jesus (cross, lamb, fish), or written material using symbolic language. Pupils explain associations / possible meanings and try to explain what a symbol is.

 

The children should continue their ongoing project on the Christian Faith.

 

The new sections to be added are:

 

GOD

 

(a) Explain how Christians believe that God is a designer, & that He designed everything.

 

(b) Write about the different days of the creation of the world as described in the Bible.

 

Day 1 A water covered Earth in space. Day & night.

 

Day 2 The Earth's atmosphere.

 

Day 3 Continents pushed up from the ocean floor. Plants & trees.

 

Day 4 Sun, moon, planets, & stars to mark seasons, days & years.

 

Day 5 All creatures & fish in the water. All flying creatures & birds.

 

Day 6 All creatures & animals on land, including mankind.

 

Day 7 God stopped & rested. But God still holds things together & 'sustains' all things.

 

(c) Explain how the Bible tells us that humans did not evolve from apes. What are the differences between humans & other animals?

 

Add this to the JESUS section:

 

(b) What 'qualifications' has Jesus got?

 

Include: His teaching & that He showed Himself to be the Son of God.

 

Lots of people knew Him. Books & letters were written about Him.

 

Jesus performed miracles, rose back to life, showing that God, the highest authority, recommends Jesus Christ.

 

A very respected person in the community (John the Baptist) vouched for Jesus.

 

Show how different people reacted to Jesus. Good & bad reactions.

 

Add this to the FAITH section:

 

(c) The last supper. Why was it to be the last one?

 

The bread & wine are symbols of what?

 

Christians celebrate the last supper. It is known by various names; e.g. Eucharist, Holy Communion, Lord's Supper, Mass. Explain why.
