Where does the idea of 'Halloween' come from?

Halloween is thought to have originated among the ancient Druids, who lit great fires on that night to ward off the huge number of evil spirits.
These spirits were thought to be called by Saman, whom they called the lord of the dead, on that very night.
This is where the idea of ghosts and witches
has come from.
What sort of things are done on Halloween now?

It's a time for going to parties,
dressing up as witches,
& trick or treat.
Is there anything wrong with that?
It seems to be all good fun,
but here are some reasons for it not being so good as we might imagine:

1) There are elderly people who get very scared by groups of people dressed in ugly masks, who go round banging on doors when it is dark.
We know of one old lady who sits on her stairs for the evening, with all the lights out, waiting for it to all finish.
Is this right that the elderly should be frightened like this?
(And it is not just old people who get scared).

2) Trick or treat is where you knock on someone's door & ask for a treat.
But if you don't get anything then you do something bad to them, like throw eggs at the house.
Have you tried to clean eggs off of a house?
It's a horrible job!
So in effect you are demanding a gift, & if you are not given one, then you  damage their house or garden.
Does this sound like good, loving behaviour?

3) Halloween is about evil spirits, ghosts,
wizards, and witches .
These sound like funny, harmless things.
But there are real evil spirits, wizards, & witches who are the enemies of God.
They want to trap people with lies, & to control them. All these things should be avoided.
We know that God speaks the truth & Jesus said that it is "the Truth that will set you free."
Do we really want to celebrate these bad things?
Do we want to celebrate with the enemies of God?
It is good to dress up, have fun & go to parties.
Spending time with your friends is very important.
But let's have fun celebrating good & cheerful things.
