In part 3 we finished with what Paul wrote:
"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited."
(Romans 12:16)
To be humble means not being proud, but being modest, and aware of our weaknesses.
Let's look at some of the benefits of being humble:
The first benefit of being humble, is that we are more likely to know God's will for our lives.
Someone who is humble, is both willing to be guided, and is teachable.
Psalm 25:9 says;
"The Lord guides the humble in what is right, and teaches them His way."
Secondly, to be humble, is invaluable in the area of our endurance.
At times we have to suffer things with patience.
We need to submit, to the hardships that we are going through.
In our own strength, we would fall, but God holds up the humble.
Psalm 147:6 says;
"The Lord sustains the humble, but casts the wicked to the ground."
And thirdly, to be humble is one way, of really pleasing God the Father.
I don't mean, that we can please God, so that He will save us.
No, we can only have acceptance with God, through Jesus Christ.
But when we are saved, we will want to please our Heavenly Father.
The Lord says in Isaiah 66:2
"This is the one I esteem; He who is humble, and contrite in spirit, and who trembles at My Word."
'The one I esteem,' that is the one, that God the Father delights to look at, because they are humble.
They know that their own strength, and ability, is limited.
The pride that is within them, has been broken, and they tremble at God's Word.
They have come to realise, that they need to submit to the words of the Bible.
They read the Bible with a humble heart.
These things please our God and Father.
May we be humble, in all our conversations with one another.
And may we be humble to others, who have come to faith in a different way to us.
When we are truely humble, then we are in the best place to serve the Lord, in the Kingdom of God.
"I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble, and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit, through the bond of peace. There is one Body, and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope, when you were called - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it."
Ephesians 4: (1-7)
